Consistent, preventive dental care is the simplest way to keep treatment minimal over a lifetime. We focus on catching problems early, when they are smaller, cheaper and easier to manage.
Most serious dental problems start quietly. Decay, gum disease and cracks often develop with little or no pain until they are advanced, which is why regular examinations matter more than many people expect. At Claremont Dental Rooms, a routine visit is not just a quick look and a polish. It is a structured assessment of your teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, supported by imaging where appropriate, so that small changes are identified before they become bigger treatments.
Our general and preventive services cover comprehensive examinations, professional hygiene appointments, fillings, and the ongoing management of tooth decay and gum (periodontal) disease. Hygiene visits remove the hardened plaque and tartar that brushing alone cannot reach, and they give us a regular checkpoint to monitor gum health, which is linked to broader health outcomes.
We see patients of all ages, from young children through to older adults. For families, this continuity is valuable. We get to know your history, track changes over time, and tailor recall intervals to your individual risk rather than applying a fixed schedule to everyone. Someone with healthy teeth and low risk may not need the same frequency of visits as someone managing active gum disease or a high decay rate.
Eligible children can receive care under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), a Medicare program that covers a portion of basic dental services for qualifying families. We are happy to check eligibility and explain what is included.
Our preference is always for the least invasive option that protects your long-term oral health. Where a tooth can be monitored rather than drilled, or a habit changed rather than a problem treated, we will tell you. The goal is to keep you in the prevention category for as long as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Booking takes a couple of minutes online, or you can call us on (08) 6166 6342 if you would rather talk it through. If you are a new patient, allow a little extra time at your first visit so we can go through your medical history and what you want from your dental care.
Your first appointment is a comprehensive examination. We check your teeth for decay and cracks, assess your gum health, look at how your bite works, and screen the soft tissues of your mouth. X-rays are taken where they will tell us something we cannot see by looking, not as a routine add-on.
We then sit down and talk you through what we found, in plain language. If treatment is needed, you will get a written treatment plan with each item priced, along with the expected rebate from your health fund. Nothing beyond your examination and clean goes ahead until you have seen those numbers and agreed to them.
If you have extras cover, you can claim on the spot at reception and pay only the gap. We are preferred providers for several funds, and we accept all of them.
Most people leave the first visit with a clean, a clear picture of where things stand, and a recall interval set to their own risk rather than a default six months.
-
For most people, every six months works well, but the right interval depends on your individual risk. Patients with healthy teeth and gums may safely extend the gap, while those managing gum disease, a high decay rate or other risk factors may need more frequent visits. We set your recall based on your mouth, not a fixed rule.
-
A comprehensive examination involves checking your teeth for decay and cracks, assessing your gums for signs of disease, examining your bite, and screening the soft tissues of your mouth. X-rays may be taken when appropriate to see between teeth and below the gumline. We then discuss what we find and any recommendations.
-
Yes, in most cases. Hardened plaque (tartar) cannot be removed by brushing or flossing at home and is a major driver of gum disease, which is often painless until it is advanced. A professional clean removes this buildup and lets us catch early gum changes before they progress.
-
Many children aged 0 to 17 qualify for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule if their family receives an eligible government payment such as Family Tax Benefit Part A. The schedule covers a capped amount of basic dental services over a two-year period. We can check your child's eligibility for you.

The earliest stage, gingivitis, is usually reversible with professional cleaning and good home care. More advanced gum disease (periodontitis), which involves bone loss, can be managed and stabilised but not fully reversed, which is exactly why early detection through regular visits matters.
